Digestive Tract Care What You Need To Know External vs. Internal Body Cleansing
Most people in modern society have a daily routine that includes taking a bath or shower, washing their hair, brushing their teeth, and putting on clean clothes. They would not consider going for several days without a bath or brushing their teeth, let alone weeks, months, years, or longer. Yet many of these same people do not recognize the need for internal cleansing. The outside of the body represents about 10% of the body’s total surface area; the remaining 90% is internal. The purpose of this book is to tell you what you need to know about cleaning the digestive tract. This is only one part of the human body that can, and should, be cleaned (detoxified) on a regular basis.
Staying Healthy in Today’s Toxic World
Never before in the history of our planet has there been such an overwhelming volume of toxic materials dumped on us through our air, water, and food supply and, consequently, into our bodies. Some reports now indicate that the Earth is 1000 times more toxic than it was in 1950. This means that the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the foods we eat are all more toxic than ever before. If we are to survive in this environment, we must learn how to offset the damaging effects of the toxins that surround us and find new ways to care for our families, our friends, and ourselves.
Health Conditions Resulting From Pollution
According to the www.waterandhealth.org, as of 2000, most waterborne disease outbreaks are from undetermined sources (39%), but the greatest percentage of disease outbreaks come by parasitic protozoa (21%),
bacteria (18%), chemical (16%), and viruses (6%). There were 155 outbreaks in a year and almost 432,000 individual reported cases of illness here in the United States alone.
In 1993, USA Today reported the following statistics regarding the health effects of water pollution. Chlorine products (trihalomethanes) found in public water supply systems may have caused 10,700 cases of rectal and bladder cancer per year.
The American Cancer Society suggests that the increase in bowel cancer is due to:
1. Hormones and antibiotics fed to animals
2. Carcinogenic agents in the air we breathe and the water we drink
3. Pesticides & herbicides sprayed on the crops
From other sources, we learn that:
1. At least 2 million Americans suffer from digestive tract problems each year. These digestive problems include but are not limited to; Colitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Ileitis, GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), and Diverticulitis.
2. At least 100,000 of this 2 million will have a colostomy. This leaves the person with a stool bag hanging on their hip.
3. Every year 140,000 Americans will be diagnosed with colon or rectal cancer.
100,000 will die from it. It is the second leading cause of death in the US. The number of people who die from colon cancer is more than breast cancer or prostate cancer. Colon cancer kills four times as many people as AIDS.
The Center for Disease Control estimates that 76 million Americans get sick, more than 300,000 are hospitalized, and 5,000 people die from foodborne illnesses each year. Keep in mind that many people do not report food or waterborne illnesses, and most medical facilities do not report minor or individual outbreaks.
The Food We Eat
The fast food era was just getting started when the "Baby Boomers" became teenagers. This means that the vast majority of Americans have grown up on "fast food" to one degree or another. Processed foods now dominate the shelves in the grocery store. Think about your favorite grocery store. How much of it contains fresh fruit and vegetables? How much is occupied by row and rows of bags, boxes, cans, and jars? Those bags, boxes, cans and jars represent highly processed and low fiber foods.
A lot of the nutrition is stripped away in the process of preparing food for the grocery shelf. Preservatives are then added to them to make them "stay fresh" while on the shelf. Even white rice that has to be cooked has had the outer shell, or bran, stripped away. The fiber, and sometimes the nutrition, is concentrated in the bran.
Some of your favorite snacks have a "shelf life" of 17 years. This means that 17 years after it was made, it is still edible! How much nutrition could there possibly be in that tasty little snack? Research studies show that the regular use of carbohydrates and the lack of fiber in the diet increase the transit time of the bowel waste and stimulate the process of putrefaction (producing toxins) in the colon.
Environmental Pollution + Food = Colon Problems
The combination of environmental pollution and the foods we eat has a devastating effect on the body. It starts with constipation and indigestion. As we get more
constipated, the toxin levels in the body increase. Eventually, the toxins manifest in the form of a debilitating disease such as colon cancer. All of this can be avoided by understanding how the disease process works and what you can do to prevent these diseases from happening to you.
Body Energy Levels
One of the simplest ways to determine how air, water, and fool pollution is affecting you every day is to pay close attention to the energy levels within your body. In the
morning when you awake, notice your energy level. Give it a number on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being a very high level of energy, and at 1 you feel completely drained.
After you eat something, pay attention to your energy level again. Did that food increase or decrease your energy level; or have no effect on your energy level? Assign a new number to this energy level. This will give you a clue as to whether or not the food you ate was beneficial (your energy number went up); or detrimental (your energy number went down); or had no impact (your energy level is unchanged). This gives you a very simple tool you can use as you begin making better choices.
Try the same experiment before and after drinking a glass of water or taking a shower. If the water lowers your energy level, you may be reacting to the fluorine (a toxin) in the water. You may want to consider installing a filter or showerhead that removes chorines and fluorine from the water. Do you find your energy drained when you are around certain people? Apply the same test before and after being around these people. Some people will actually have a toxic effect upon you. Needless to say, avoid these people as much as you can.
If your energy is at level 1 or 2 when you awake, you need to take immediate action to reverse the disease process. A good digestive tract care program will slow
Eating whole organic foods whenever possible, drinking purified water, showering in filtered water and breathing fresh unpolluted air are things you can do everyday to increase your energy levels, detoxify your body and maintain good health.
Most headaches, including migraines, are the result of a sluggish or constipated colon. In the event that your headache is colon related, then a colon therapy program will help your colon return to its normal function and eliminate the headaches. You may experience a mild onset (of headaches) during your first few sessions. This is a clear indication that the headaches are colon related and this is a normal healing reaction. The headaches will subside and eventually disappear.
Low Back Conditions
Inflamed and/or toxic colons can cause low back pain. Radiographs of the low back frequently reveal inflamed and impacted colons. Toxic impactions of the sigmoid and rectal sections of the colon can impede the normal functions of the spine and cause nerve root irritations.
The evidence collected from clinical experience show that patients heal faster, with fewer symptoms, when colon therapy is combined with chiropractic treatments.
Reducing the Risk of Colon Cancer
The risk of colon cancer can be reduced by:
Eating better foods to achieve proper bowel movement activity;
Detoxifying the colon with colon hydrotherapy;
Maintaining a healthy bowel with periodic colon hydrotherapy treatments.
Now you understand why so many adult Americans have a degenerative colon disorder or colon disease. Most of these conditions are not diagnosed until the symptoms are severe enough to manifest as a disease or disorder.
It begins in children with bowel movements that are slow or sluggish and small in size. As adults we experience constipation. All this time, the toxic levels are slowly increasing; for what is not eliminated from the body is recycled and stored somewhere in the body. Most Americans cannot describe a normal bowel movement because they have never had one!!
To test your knowledge on bowel movements, take this quick quiz. A healthy bowel movement in an adult is best described as:
1. Dark brown material, hard and lumpy, small pieces, once a day requires fair amount of toilet paper.
2. Medium brown material, smooth, 1/2 inch diameter, once a day requires some toilet paper:
3. Light brown material, smooth and round, 1 inch diameter, 12 inches long, after each meal, requires very little toilet paper.
4. Dark brown, almost liquid, many small pieces, strong order, three times in one hour, requires much toilet paper.
If you answered number three above, you are right. A healthy bowel movement is light to medium brown, an inch in diameter and about 12-15 inches in length. It is 9liminated in one piece and is soft, almost light and fluffy ooking. It disintegrates completely when the toilet is flushed. It requires very little toilet paper to "clean up". It Dccurs at least three times a day; usually after every meal.
The process of digestion, from food ingestion to elimination, normally requires twelve to twenty-four hours. Defecation should occur within thirty minutes to one hour following every meal and once upon rising in the morning.
The body’s healing process has two fundamental steps.
Step One: The elimination of damaged tissue, debris, and toxic materials
Step Two: The repair and regeneration of injured & unhealthy body tissue.
When Step One (debrisment & toxin elimination) is slowed down or does not happen at all, the tissue repair and regeneration process is impaired. In other words, the healing process cannot get started until the debrisment and toxic elimination processes are completed or, at least, well underway.
As the toxic levels build up, what the individual notices first is that it takes longer to heal. The healing time is increased in direct proportion to the toxicity level of the colon. The toxicity of the rest of the body will rise in direct proportion to the toxicity of the colon. As the level of toxins in the body continues to rise, the individual notices a lower level of general health and well being. This is followed by the onset of an illness or disease.
When the toxic matter and other colonic plaque are not flushed from the colon, the toxic residue gets re-absorbed back into the body. This re-absorption causes several very noticeable problems including:
1 Bad Breath
2 Body odor
3 Putrid gas
4 Digestive disorders
6 Prostate disorders
7 Liver dysfunction
8 Multiple allergic response syndrome (MARS)
9 Sluggish lymphatic system
10 Multiple food allergies
At this point, most people go to the doctor's office and come home with one or more prescription drugs. Prescription drugs are some of the most toxic materials on the planet. No drug is designed to address the underlying problem. Drugs are designed to stop the symptoms, such as pain, and create a false sense that all is well. In the process, drugs dump more toxins into an already toxin-impaired body and actually slow down the healing process. This is the dirty little secret the pharmaceutical companies don't want you to know.
A Sign Of Plaque
In the morning when you are in the bathroom getting ready to brush your teeth, open your mouth and observe the formation of the substance coating the top surface of your tongue. This unwanted material is better known as plaque. It should be removed every time you brush your teeth using a tooth brush or tongue cleaner.
If you have a digestive tract problem such as constipation, you may be tempted to use a laxative? How do laxatives work? They may get the bowels to move, but they do not go after the underlying problem, which is a toxic colon (bowel). They may actually add to the toxin level making your colon problems even worse. Laxatives are habit forming and cause dehydration. When you are dehydrated, you digestion slows down and the colon gets more sluggish. This adds to the problem... not the solution. At best, laxatives may give temporary relief to a
long term problem; but keep in mind that they make the problems worse, not better.
Before you decide to use a laxative to solve your colon problems, take a look at these facts:
1. Laxatives are a chemical irritant used to stimulate the muscular walls of the colon to initiate a peristaltic wave that moves the material in the colon.
2. Laxatives are habit forming leaving you dependent upon their continued use.
3. Once you become dependent on laxatives, the colon loses the ability to eliminate normally;
Enemas are sometimes used to give temporary relief from the symptoms of constipation. An enema is only effective for a very short distance into the lower descending colon that includes the rectum and maybe slightly beyond. Usually, tap water is used and this is not a healthy source of water or a good therapeutic practice. Self-administered enemas may be uncomfortable and awkward and result in an unwanted and very uncomfortable situation if rectal leakage should occur. Enemas are a substandard tool in digestive tract care, but at least they provide some temporary relief with fewer harmful side effects.
In contrast to laxatives and enemas, colon hydrotherapy is not habiting forming and does not irritate the bowel. It improves the hydration of the digestive tract and helps to re-establish the normal bowel function. Colon hydrotherapy is the gentle infusion of filtered water into the large intestines that helps soften and remove waste material, such as fecal material, gas, mucous, mucoid byproducts, plaque, and toxic compounds from the colon. The results of this digestive tract cleansing process is a cleaner and healthier colon that, in turn, will help improve the overall health of the body.
A healthy colon (through normal absorption & elimination) is essential for a healthy body. The food choices made by Americans today are obviously not the healthiest ones. The fast food restaurants and grocery stores are filled with refined, processed food, high in saturated fats, and low in fiber. Our food supply is sprayed and injected with antibiotics, hormones, and pesticides. Together, they make a major contribution to the many problems associated with our digestive tracts, especially problems found in the large intestines. The large intestines are responsible for two primary digestive functions:
1. The assimilation and re-absorption of usable materials, such as water, minerals, and foodstuff;
2. The elimination of all digested and undigested food materials and other waste products.
When waste materials move slowly or are allowed to remain stagnant within the large intestines, they begin to decompose. These decomposed materials create an increase in certain bacteria, which produce very toxic substances. Under normal conditions, the large intestine is a two-way street. That is to say; not only does it eliminate unwanted materials, but it re-absorbs necessary substances, as well. When the flow of material in the intestinal tract slows down or comes to a standstill, the large intestines begin re-absorbing these very toxic substances. This is a precursor to many health related problems. According to some experts, approximately 92% of all diseases start in the large intestines.
Colon hydrotherapy is the safe, gentle infusion of warm filtered water, which matches the body’s temperature of approximately 100 degrees F. The process is a restorative, painless procedure, which is both relaxing and effective. The individual lies comfortably on a
treatment table and a small speculum or rectal nozzle is gently inserted into the rectum. The therapist monitors the temperature and flow of the water going into and out of the colon (large intestine). The colon hydrotherapy method cleanses the entire colon without stressing the individual. This method provides a system in which waste material is eliminated through the device and out the drain line, avoiding any offensive odor and maintaining the dignity of the individual.
Other advantages with a colon hydrotherapy machine are:
1. It uses an advanced and highly effective water purification system:
2. It regulates the water temperature and pressure.
3. It extends the treatment time allowing the cleansing of the entire large intestine.
These advantages allow the individual to experience a more effective and complete cleansing of the colon. In many cases, the individual will enjoy the immediate benefits of therapeutic detoxification.
The elimination process removes this unwanted waste material through the large intestines by a circular muscle contraction called peristalsis. Colon hydrotherapy provides therapeutic improvement of the sluggish muscular tone of the large intestines, which improves and facilitates peristalsis.
Large Intestine Bacteria
The large intestine contains the largest concentration of bacteria anywhere in the body. Some of the major bacteria (Bacillus coli & Acidophillus) provide important functions that include:
1. The synthesis of folic acid
2. The synthesis of B-vitamins
